THE WALLACE CENTERS OF IOWA: sustainable food & civility initiatives

Hearts & Homes Historic Teas

High Tea & History

This was an exceptional experience. I hope you have these luncheons next year. I will bring my friends. –Des Moines Senior College student

Hearts & Homes Historic Teas combine a delicious lunch with a program of readings from the historic pages of the women’s section of Wallaces’ Farmer magazine. The program is held at the Wallace House, in the same rooms where Nancy Wallace edited her Hearts & Homes column from 1895 to 1909. Nancy’s column provided sound advice and thought-provoking commentary still useful today. Laugh and learn during this 90-minute program.

Scheduled throughout the year, “Open Tea” dates accept reservations from several separate small groups. Groups of at least 12 people can schedule their own private program on weekdays, depending on availability. Teas begin at 11:30 am, unless the group specifies otherwise.

Location: The Wallace House, 756 16th Street, Des Moines (16th & Center).

Cost: $22/person inclusive

Since its introduction in December of 2009, the program has enriched and nourished a growing number of Des Moines Senior College classes, Red Hat ladies clubs, PEO groups, doll clubs, retirement groups, and the Ray Society from Drake University. Private programs for groups of at least 12 people are available. Call 515.243.7063 for more information or email Deborah Boyer.
