High Tea & History
Hearts & Homes Historic Teas combine a delicious 3-course lunch with a program of readings from the historic pages of the women’s section of Wallaces’ Farmer magazine. The program is held at the Wallace House, in the same rooms where Nancy Wallace edited her Hearts & Homes column from 1895 to 1909. Nancy’s column provided sound advice and thought-provoking commentary still useful today.
Scheduled throughout the year, “Open Tea” dates accept reservations from several separate small groups. Most of the fruits and vegetables used in the menu are grown at the Country Life Center farm. Please let us know about dietary restrictions and accessibility needs in advance.
Since its beginning in December of 2009, the program has entertained a growing number of Des Moines Senior College classes, Red Hat ladies clubs, PEO groups, doll clubs, retirement groups, bridal showers, and the Ray Society from Drake University.
