Farm Programs Manager

The Wallace Centers of Iowa (WCI) is seeking a Farm Programs Manager who is educated in horticulture and/or has extensive experience in vegetable/fruit production.  Additionally, the successful candidate will also have experience creating and executing programs for youth and adults. This position will be based at the rural Orient location.

Qualifications:  A bachelor of science in horticulture or a related field OR extensive experience in vegetable/fruit gardening, evidence of teaching ability, examples of collaborations including team building, creative problem solving experience and a commitment to a healthy environment.  Must also hold a valid Iowa driver’s license. Salary Range: $38,000 to $42,000 depending on education and experience

Overview:

The Farm Programs Manager will manage the organization’s 12 acres of tillable land and orchard for produce production for use by two kitchens, create/participate in educational programming, and build/expand partnerships. This will include creating an annual site plan for 1-2 acres of production, fallow ground, cover crops, flowers and other land use. Organizing the construction of a geothermal greenhouse and integrating it into food production and educational opportunities is a 2021 priority. Coordination with the two Chef/Foods Program Managers, Country Life Center Site Manager and CEO will be critical.
