Garden Production Manager

We’re looking for a Garden Production Manager to manage WCI’s 12 acres of tillable land and orchard including production for use by two kitchens, cover crops, flowers and other land use. Coordination with the two Chef/Foods Program Managers, Wallace Farm Site Manager and CEO will be critical. The organization intends to construct a geothermal greenhouse, so work on that installation may be part of the responsibilities depending on skill set and timeline.

Qualifications:  Experience in vegetable/fruit gardening; experience with small equipment such as tillers, mowers, small farm tractor and equipment/attachments; examples of collaborations including team building; and creative problem solving experience. Supervisory experience is a plus.

  • Salary Range: $18-22/hour depending on experience
  • Seasonal employment through September/October with the opportunity for year-round employment

Farm Programs Intern

This position has been filled 4/5/22.

We’re looking for a Farm Programs Intern who is interested in a hands-on working/learning experience in vegetable/fruit production. This position is based at the Wallace Farm in rural Orient.

The Intern will help the Farm Programs Manager manage WCI’s 12 acres of tillable land and orchard for vegetable/fruit production for use by two kitchens and an on-site farm stand. The site also includes space for cover crops, pollinator habitat, flowers and other land use. The Intern will participate in educational programming and special projects, one of which could be the construction of a geothermal greenhouse and integrating it into food production and educational opportunities. Occasional weekend work may be required. Minimum of 10 weeks, maximum of 14 weeks – actual dates to be mutually determined.

Internship Remuneration

  • $400-450/week for full-time work
  • Basic housing can be available on-site – private bedroom, Wi-Fi & access to bathroom, kitchen, shower & laundry facilities, some located in other buildings.

Prairie-Conservation Programs Intern

We’re looking for a Prairie/Conservation Programs Intern who is interested in a hands-on working/learning experience in prairie and conservation efforts. This position will be based at the Wallace Farm in rural Orient.

The Intern will help the Wallace Farm Site Manager and Farm Programs Manager manage the organization’s 9-acre restored prairie as well as other land used for cover crops, pollinator habitat, flowers and other land use. The Intern will research best practices for prairie management including weed and invasive species control and develop a prairie management plan. The Intern will participate in educational programming and special projects. Occasional weekend work may be required. Minimum of 10 weeks, maximum of 14 weeks – actual dates to be mutually determined.
