Host your next gathering in a place with history, character, and a connection to Iowa’s landscape and legacy. Wallace Centers of Iowa offers two distinctive spaces for private rentals: the Gathering Barn at Wallace Farm near Orient and Wallace House in Des Moines.

Our facilities are available for business meetings, retreats, celebrations, showers, reunions, community gatherings, and other private events.

Gathering Barn at the Wallace Farm

Make your next meeting or celebration a scenic getaway. The Gathering Barn at the Wallace Farm near Orient offers a spacious, welcoming setting surrounded by restored prairie, gardens and a landscape rooted in the Wallace family’s legacy of agriculture, innovation, and public service.

The Gathering Barn, designed by architect William Wagner, replicates the original barn that stood west of the house in the early days of the farm. Inside, the barn accommodates up to 60 people in the main floor meeting room and up to 35 on the second floor meeting room.

Best for: Meetings, retreats, family gatherings, showers, celebrations, and larger group events.

Wallace House

Looking for a unique space for your next meeting or gathering? The historic Wallace House in Des Moines offers a welcoming setting different from your typical conference room or event venue just minutes from downtown.

The Wallace House is a restored 1884 Victorian home where “Uncle Henry” and Nancy Cantwell Wallace lived when they founded Wallaces’ Farmer farm journal. Inside, the first floor space provides a gracious, historic setting for gatherings of up to 45 people (seated).

Best for: Business meetings, small receptions, showers, luncheons, and intimate gatherings.
