The Wallace Centers of Iowa preserves the legacy of one of America’s most consequential agricultural families and puts that legacy to work in Iowa today.
The Wallace family were not simply farmers. They were innovators, scientists, and public servants who shaped modern American agriculture. Henry A. Wallace was born at the Wallace Farm in Orient, Iowa, went on to serve as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and then Vice President under Franklin D. Roosevelt, and founded Pioneer Hi-Bred, the company that revolutionized hybrid seed corn.
Today, Wallace Centers of Iowa keeps that legacy alive at the Wallace House in Des Moines and the Wallace Farm in Orient, where we bring people together around Iowa’s history and new ideas in food security and agriculture, hosting tours, community events, and educational workshops.
We’re rooted in Iowa, but like the Wallace family before us, we believe our work can reach far beyond our borders. Your gift helps carry that legacy forward, preserving Iowa’s past and growing its future.

Historic Legacy gifts support the preservation and interpretation of the Wallace House in Des Moines and the Wallace Farm near Orient, birthplace of Henry A. Wallace. Gifts to this fund bring the history of Iowa agriculture to life through immersive exhibits, tours, and educational programming at both sites.
Abundant Futures
Abundant Futures gifts support our work growing and donating fresh produce to food-insecure families, restoring native prairie at the Wallace Farm, and helping farmers and food-system innovators test new ideas. Gifts to this fund drive innovation in food, land, and community across Iowa.
