Helping Food-Insecure Iowans
Growing for Good is how the Wallace Centers of Iowa turn gardens and orchards into nourishment for our neighbors. Through food donations, volunteer-powered harvests, and community partnerships, we ensure that fresh, locally grown produce reaches food pantries and families across Iowa.
From planting seeds to gleaning apples, Growing for Good connects people to the land—and to one another—through meaningful action that addresses food insecurity.
Apple Gleaning
Each late summer, volunteer groups help harvest apples from our orchards to be donated to local food pantries. It’s a hands-on way to support food access while spending time outdoors together.
Garden for Good Sweet Potatoes
Our Garden for Good is a dedicated garden sponsored by The Meyocks Group that is used for growing sweet potatoes that are donated to area food banks and pantries. Sweet potatoes are nutritious, easy to prepare, store well, and a common food in many cultures.
