Volunteer With Us
Volunteering at Wallace Centers of Iowa is an opportunity to work alongside others and make a tangible contribution to the places and programs we care for.
Throughout the year, we welcome individuals, community organizations, and corporate teams to lend a hand. Opportunities vary by season and may include working in the fields and orchard at Wallace Farm, helping care for Wallace House, and pitching in with other projects as needs arise.
Volunteer at Wallace Farm
Many of our volunteer opportunities support Farm to Pantry, our work to grow fresh produce for food pantries and food-insecure communities in rural Iowa.
Depending on the season, volunteers may help with:
- Planting, tending, and harvesting crops
- Harvesting apples, peaches, pears, and other orchard fruit
- Planting and digging sweet potatoes
- Preparing produce for distribution
- Seasonal farm and grounds projects
No agricultural experience is necessary. We’ll provide instructions and the tools needed for the day.
Volunteer at Wallace House
It takes ongoing care to keep a historic home welcoming and ready for visitors. Volunteers at Wallace House in Des Moines help us keep the house and grounds in tip-top shape through occasional projects such as gardening, seasonal cleanup, light cleaning and organizing, and other hands-on tasks.
Corporate & Group Volunteer Opportunities
Looking for a meaningful way to bring your team together outside the office? Wallace Centers of Iowa offers hands-on volunteer opportunities for businesses, organizations, service clubs, and other groups.
Projects are matched with current needs, the season, group size, and weather. A volunteer day offers a chance to work together while contributing to WCI’s work in the community.
